Scholarships for white people of African descent?

Filed under Scholarships for | 3 Comments

I’m a senior in high school, and I’m looking for scholarships to apply for. I am a white woman, but my mother is from South Africa. So are my grandparents. I have six generations on my mother’s side from South Africa, spanning back past the Boer War.

I know there are several scholarships for African-Americans who are black, but do you know of any for white people?

I’m not trying to be offensive, I’m just trying to get erudition grants. Thankfulness!

I would believe that you would still qualify for an African-American erudition. You would probably want to have some documentation that your family is from South Africa.
If they don’t let you have an African-American erudition, call racism, sue them, and go to college completely free.

None at a national amount that i know of. Question your family and see if there is a local or state organization for people of South African family tree that they know. Smaller local organizations tend to offer scholarships and are simpler to obtain than national scholarships.

Also, you would not be able to apply for African-American scholarships contrary to what the person has said above. The point of those scholarships is not to award money to people b/c their ancestors are from Africa…it’s b/c black Americans have the highest rate of poverty per capita compared to any other ethnicity in the country. Hence the reason most Af. Am. scholarships have a very strong financial need basis to them as well. Rich black people do not get these scholarships either.

Also, guarantee you someone has already tried to sue one of those erudition programs based on the definition of ‘African American’ and it did not work out.
